FSQ Selects DJ Rocca

We are very fortunate to have multi-instrumentalist and producer DJ Rocca bless FSQ on our Reprise Reprise Tonight album (out now via Soul Clap Records) with a DJ Rocca Italo Disco remix of “11:00 AM” featuring Chas Bronz and legend Fonda Rae.

We we are celebrating all of the remix producer talent on Reprise Reprise Tonight with special tribute mixes and FSQ curated artist playlists. DJ Rocca is the fifth in our series:

The playlist features almost 3 hours of original productions by DJ Rocca (aka Luca Roccatagliati) including many FSQ favorites with DJ Rocca solo titles such as “Tropicale 17”, “Clean Air”, “Tokyo”, and DJ Rocca’s brilliant collaborations with other notable producers such as Dimitri From Paris, Daniele Baldelli, Leo Almunia, and Chris Coco.

“I am not sure when I first came across the music of DJ Rocca,” says FSQ’s Chuck Da Fonk. “Maybe it was via Nang Records about 10 years ago, around 2012. I was just really getting into all of the music of Nang at that time - they seemed to have all of the best Nu-Disco releases. But DJ Rocca’s depth of production spans multiple genres of music and his releases can be found across a dozen or more other record labels such as Spa In Disco, Delusions of Grandeur, Real Balearic, Faze Action Records, ROAM Recordings and many other special dance music imprints. As FSQ expanded our own catalog into other musical arenas beyond funk, for instance, into Balearic with our FSQ release “Zulu Congo Call”, I kept coming across DJ Rocca practicing musical excellence in these diverse genres. It’s possible we were first introduced when DJ Rocca released on our home record label, Soul Clap Records, but I truly can’t recall.”

“Impressed by DJ Rocca’s diverse musical talents, I had been asking him for a few years if there was a possibility that FSQ could collaborate with him. Instead of creating something new, Rocca took notice of our 2020 album “Reprise Tonight” and asked if he could remix our FSQ track with legend Fonda Rae (Don Armando’s 2nd Ave Rhumba Band, Kid Creole and The Coconuts, Fantasy, Wish and solo endeavors) - titled “11:00 AM” which appears on the album. He quickly whipped up an Italo Disco remix which pays great sonic homage to many of Fonda’s brilliant 1980’s singles, like for instance “Touch Me” by Wish featuring Fonda.”

“DJ Rocca tracks have been topping our monthly FSQ DJ charts for the past few years. His prolific output and consistent greatness means his new releases are usually featured on our weekly FSQ radio show on The Face Radio. I love all of DJ Rocca’s music, but I think I really lean towards his Balearic productions, especially his collaborations with his Italian countryman, Daniele Baldelli.”

Chuck Da Fonk put together a special tribute mix composed of DJ Rocca’s work on a recent FSQ radio show - it’s an hour long mix of all DJ Rocca’s music starting about 7 minutes into this episode:

(PS - Chuck Da Fonk and DJ Rocca have never met in person, so please excuse the photo of Chuck and Birdee - it’s not representative of the actual mix content, which is again a DJ Rocca tribute mix)
