FSQ Selects Birdee

We are very fortunate to have multi-instrumentalist and producer Birdee bless FSQ for our Reprise Reprise Tonight album (out now via Soul Clap Records) with a remix of “Dancefloor Democracy”.

We we are celebrating all of the remix producer talent on Reprise Reprise Tonight with special tribute mixes and FSQ curated artist playlists. Birdee is the fourth in our series:

The playlist features almost 2 hours of Birdee (aka Marcello De Angelis) original productions including jams “Your Power”, “Give Into Love”, “Shake Avec Frites”, “Be Yourself”, “Meant To Be” featuring Alena and many others. Plus it includes the Birdee remixes for Aeroplane, Dave Lee / Joey Montenegro, Yhago, Louis La Roche, and of course, FSQ.

We first became aware of Birdee through his productions for Midnight Riot Records, a record label FSQ started producing one-off non-album cuts for starting with 2016’s “Shaking My Damn Head” featuring Dolette McDonald.

A warm Italian-American connection and festive relationship began between FSQ’s Chuck Da Fonk and Marcello (Birdee) via Facebook messenger shortly after the pair were introduced to each other’s music via Midnight Riot.

While the two have never yet met in person - they will soon at the Los Angeles Italo-Disco party, Dancing Therapy at Lash Social (RSVP here). Now, keep scrolling …

“I loved Birdee’s super tight Nu-Disco production right from my first introduction to his music. The Birdee trademark sound includes rounded and fat bass lines laced with tight and crisp funk guitar chords, all splashed with the most sparkly synthesizer parts - almost glittery over the heavy stomping four-on-the-floor beats. It’s no wonder to me that he won the crown and was dubbed Traxsource’s #1 Nu-Disco artist of 2021,” says FSQ’s Chuck Da Fonk.

“I think the first release I heard was his ‘Love EP’ for Midnight Riot Records, which has this amazing wide 80s feel on the Yam Who? remix of the title track ; I fell in love with that right away. Then that same year, 2017, Birdee smashed it with a remix for Aeroplane, ‘Love On Hold’ featuring Tawatha Agee. I wore that record out!”

“As we talked about his amazing production skills over Messenger, I worked up the courage to ask this Nu-disco superstar to consider remixing something from the then upcoming Reprise Tonight album (Soul Clap Records, 2020) and he chose to give FSQ’s ‘Dancefloor Democracy’ featuring George Clinton a thumping and intense electro-funk shine on his remix.”

“We spun this FSQ x Birdee remix for a long time - it was turned in a few years before the original album came out. It’s been a favorite in our FSQ sets for almost 4 years now - especially when we have to amp up the energy for the outdoor gigs and the festival kids. It’s heavy enough for those festival sound systems with its pulsing bass, plus its big on feelings with a bunch of moodiness created by a big dose of Italo Moroder arpeggio vibes, which seem to lead to some kind of automated emotions in the crowd. And yet as big and heavy as this remix is, it is still fun and light. To me, it may be the best FSQ DJ weapon in our bag.

Chuck Da Fonk together a special tribute mix composed of Marcello’s work on the latest FSQ radio show - it’s an hour long mix of all Birdee music starting about 15 minutes into this episode:
