FSQ Selects Dr Rubberfunk

We are very fortunate to have multi-instrumentalist and producer Dr. Rubberfunk bless FSQ for our Reprise Reprise Tonight album (out now via Soul Clap Records) with a remix of “Dancefloor Democracy”, including a vocal version and instrumental (Instrumental available exclusively at Traxsource).

We we are celebrating all of the remix producer talent on Reprise Reprise Tonight with special tribute mixes and FSQ curated artist playlists. Dr Rubberfunk is the third in our series

Click through to find the “FSQ Selects Dr Rubberfunk” playlist on Apple Music or Spotify and the embedded player follows.

The playlist features almost 2 hours of Dr Rubberfunk (aka Simon Ward) original productions, from his albums "33", "45", "Hot Stone", and "The First Cut" plus his remixes for FSQ, Smudge All Stars, Smoove & Turrell, Protassov, Fort Knox Five and many more.

We first became aware of Dr Rubberfunk in 2003 with his deep rare groove and instrumental funk sound and tracked him down via MySpace. Staying touch with him over the years, he was one of the first producers to ever remix FSQ - in fact his remix of “Dancefloor Democracy” was produced when the FSQ project was still called fONKSQUISh. Rubberfunk’s remix of the tune is the most faithful to the original recording session of the song, and shows off the guitar work of Billy Bass Nelson and TreyLewd. The original version of “Dancefloor Democracy” appearing on Reprise Tonight (Soul Clap Records, 2020) was reworked heavily for the album as compared to Dr Rubberfunk’s deeply funk take.

Rubberfunk’s career has grown over the past decade primarily through his original music for the well known UK based funk and soul record label, Jalapeño Records.

We put together a special tribute mix composed of his work on the latest FSQ radio show - about 50 minutes of all Dr Rubberfunk music starting about 26 minutes into this episode:
