FSQ with Chuck Da Fonk on The Face Radio - what to expect on each episode

He represents FSQ on The Face Radio via spinning our own FSQ productions, by making critical DJ selections, demonstrating our musical influences, and through pushing Funk, Style, Quality music to your ears.

Since our inaugural FSQ broadcast on The Face Radio on November 6, 2019 Chuck refined the flow of this weekly program, making it a precise 2 hour journey through sound.

The FSQ show with Chuck Da Fonk now follows these 6 principles

The principles represent our FSQ - The Face Radio Manifesto:

  1. We represent the diverse sounds we call “Funk Style Quality” music 💿

We play a wide array of genres - if it’s got a groove, has a particular message we want to convey through sound, and it’s a quality production - it gets played. Tim Lawrence’s book “Life and Death on the Dancefloor” chronicles New York City’s music landscape from 1980-1983, and a quote in the book reads “everybody was listening to everything”. This quote is our FSQ show to a tee!

  2. No Song Left Unheard 🎧

This means that we want to make sure we get to play millions of songs that seem to get passed over - whether these tunes are classics, very deep rare record digs, or freshly released jams. You’ll never hear the same song twice in a year on the FSQ show. There’s too much music out there to be playing the same songs more than once, or over and over. *you may hear a remix of a song already played, but we view remixes as disparate songs from their original versions

  3. The FSQ New Music Ferry ⛴️

Related to the theme of “No Song Left Unheard” we spend hours rifling through new music promotion sent to our inbox (artists and promoters / PR - hit us up with music to review at email fsq@thefaceradio.com) Beyond the promos we get, we take way too many hours scouring playlists and intently reading the latest music press. You know you can count on FSQ to keep up with all that’s fresh 🥬 in the world of music. The result is FSQ brings you up to the minute, incredible, brilliant music releases from across the 🌍🌎🌏 globe every Wednesday from 12-2pm USA NYC time on thefaceradio.com

  4. The Holy Six Artists 👩🏾‍🎤🎤🎸

This is a weird quirk of the weekly FSQ show on The Face Radio. Chuck has a very strong affinity for these six musical groups* and he sets out to make sure that they all get played somehow during each FSQ episode. *includes any solo projects by group members or side projects, spin offs, etc.

    — George Clinton and Parliament Funkadelic

    — James Brown and The J.B.’s

    — Sly and The Family Stone

    — Duran Duran

    — Yello

    — and but of course, us, music by FSQ

  6. We can work our issues out - for 2 hours together on The Face Radio - via rhythms, melodies, and lyrics!

You’ve heard the idiom “Got a song about it, here it goes” which basically means there’s a song for every topic or situation you’ve ever experienced or will go through. Each week, show host Chuck Da Fonk strings together specific songs for each individual FSQ episode with the goals of:

    — Telling tall tales and spinning long yarns

    — Offering relatable personal stories, many of which deliver larger parables

    — Conveying important feelings that express either a fleeting, or more permanent vibe

    — Expressing the current emotions of our community, nation, and the world.

For example, following are some recent FSQ with Chuck Da Fonk episodes that are aligned to specific themes, through rhythms, melodies and lyrics.

“Last Day Here - Movin’ Day”

Many of us have been displaced by the pandemic, through loss of work, and stressed financial situations. In this episode, Chuck laments his own recent departure from New York City via the songs of Grady Tate, Brioski, Sly and The Family Stone. Plus he celebrates his love of the Big Apple via early 1980s concerts at legendary New York City venues like The Roxy and The Palladium, including performances there by Yello and Duran Duran.

“Missing Hours and Lost Songs”

Have you ever felt like your dreaming someone else’s dreams at night? Or that you’re living in someone else’s body? Or that you have a doppelgänger or evil twin out there? How about “time displacement” where you’ve lost whole days, nights, or maybe just hours of time. This cosmic episode could be described as David Lynch film directing meets radio production. Music by Rheinzand, Laurie Anderson, Angelo Badalamenti, Out Hud, Brazilian Girls deftly soundtrack the audio oriented dreamscape presented in this two hour radio adventure.

“Smoke Signals and Warmer Communications”

In a pandemic world, it’s harder than ever to stay connected our loved ones, friends and family. This episode is all about communication and reaching out, via funky songs that have lyrics attuned to that theme. Jams by Average White Band, Willie Gauff & The Love Brothers, Bootsy Rubber Band, Albert King, and the Brides of Funkenstein are our way saying “hey, listeners, we are here, available, and we are ready to talk to YOU!”

“What The Hell Is This? (Been Trying For Days)”

Tunes by legendary R&B acts Maxayn, Johnny Guitar Watson, Latimore and Blowfly will help you vent about of the current state of world affairs, via their own unique funk anthems. But since there’s no way to escape the situation, Chuck takes you virtually away from a troubled state of mind, to France and celebrates the September 2020 Tour De France via selection of rare French funk tunes from the 70s, 80s, and early 2000s.
